ARTIST // NICKI WINTERS

Hi, I'm Nicki! I have been making art for as long as I can remember. As a kid I spent a lot of my time hanging out in my Grandfather's art studio, learning his ways and secretly dreaming of one day having a studio of my own. In my 20's I opened an art centre for kids. I was making it happen! After having two kids of my own we moved out of the city to a small town about an hour away from my friends and family. This was a huge change for me but I honestly think the initial loneliness of it all really opened me up artistically. I began painting a lot as a distraction that turned into my daily therapy and that turned into me discovering my style. When you look at my work you will notice I use a LOT of colour. I surrounded myself with "joy" and over five years later, I continue to do so.

During this time I had also opened up my second art centre in our new home Port Hope and was running camps and pop-ups when I could. My hope was that eventually Art Barn would become a regular place for kids to come and create but after the pandemic hit, I decided to focus on my own who were now schooling from home. As the pandemic went on my priorities began to shift. I realized how important my art practice is to me so I leaned in and as a self taught artist I have been growing and learning new mediums, my most recent being ceramics, and I am loving every second of it. I hope my work brings you as much joy as it does me!
